TOYOTA SIENNA
The Sienna is Toyota’s first conventional minivan: steel body, front-engine, and front-wheel drive. It’s slightly longer than the short-wheelbase Chrysler minivans and has five doors, a split folding third-row seat, and a stability-control system. We find the third seat uncomfortable, but the Sienna rides well and promises excellent reliability. Unlike its competitors, the Sienna can’t fit a four-by-eight-foot sheet of plywood. Based on the Camry platform, in 2001 it received an upgraded version of the Camry’s silky DOHC 3.0-liter V-6 (with variable valve timing), which produces 210 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. There are three Sienna models: the base CE, the LE, and the well-equipped XLE. For 2003 a right-side power sliding door becomes optional on the CE, dual power sliding doors are optional on the LE, and a new optional CE package includes captain’s chairs.
