TOYOTA SEQUOIA
Toyota’s eight-passenger Sequoia is a towering figure in the SUV market— bigger than the Chevy Tahoe and about the same size as Ford’s Expedition/Navigator twins. The Sequoia is built in Indiana and is based on Toyota’s Tundra, using that pickup’s same sophisticated DOHC 4.7-liter V-8. It produces 240 horsepower and an impressive 315 pound-feet of torque. There are rear- or four-wheel drive versions—both with a buttery smooth four-speed automatic transmission—and two trim levels, SR5 and Limited. New for 2003: 17-inch alloy wheels and an auto-dimming rearview mirror are standard on the Limited, optional on the SR5. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system with two sets of cordless headphones is an option for either model, as is a load-leveling rear suspension. Sound-system controls on the steering wheel are standard on the Limited, optional on the SR5.
