MERCEDES-BENZ E320
Unlike its sedan counterpart, the E320 wagon is not all-new for this year. This luxury wagon soldiers on for 2003 on the familiar platform, unchanged. Expect the a new wagon in August 2003. Still, the current car has much going for it, such as an impressive passive-safety inventory, including side-curtain airbags. Standard active-safety features include anti-lock brakes, traction control, and a stability-control system. And a four-wheel-drive system is available as an option. There’s only one engine—a 221-hp, 3.2-liter SOHC 18-valve V-6. We’d like a V-8 option, but with good torque delivery, the V-6 is more than adequate. The E320 wagon can swallow an impressive 83 cubic feet of cargo or up to seven passengers. The E320 is pricey, but we can’t think of a wagon with a more comprehensive array of safety and security equipment. It’s hard to set a price on that.
