LINCOLN LS
LS stands for Luxury Sport, which is an apt description for this cousin of the tony Jaguar S-type. The LS shares engines and underpinnings with the Jag, and this year both engines approach the power output of last year’s Jag engines thanks to the addition of variable valve timing. The 3.0-liter V-6 jumps 12 hp to 232, while the V-8 advances 28 hp to 280. Both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic with poorly spaced first and second gears. The stick-shift V-6 version was cancelled due to lack of interest. Satin nickel and genuine walnut trim give the interior a ritzier look, and much-needed interior stowage space has been added, along with such niceties as heated rear seats and cooled front seats, side curtain airbags, power-adjustable pedals, electronic brake assist, a DVD nav system, and an in-dash CD changer. The front and rear styling is also mildly freshened.
