LEXUS LS430
The LS430 is exceptionally well built and well equipped and wants for nothing in the luxury department. Its 4.3-liter DOHC V-8 produces 290 hp and, thanks in part to variable valve timing, makes 320 pound-feet of torque—enough to move our 4113-pound test car to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. Its suspension is silky smooth and carefully damped. With the optional Euro-tuned suspension, it shows surprisingly sharp performance and response. Its styling, however, is undistinguished, lacking the presence of other cars in this class. For 2003 17-inch wheels are standard rather than optional, and all-season tires are offered. Base vehicles with climate-controlled front seats get new perforated leather. Further, a parking-assist system and climate-controlled front seats are now available as stand-alone options rather than as part of Ultra or Custom Luxury packages.
