LEXUS ES300
The ES300 is a Camry with frosting. Lots of it. It has all the luxury accouterments Lexus buyers expect as well as Toyota’s exemplary build quality. It comes as a four-door only and is powered by an evolutionary version of Toyota’s 3.0-liter 24-valve V-6. The five-speed automatic transmission is exclusive to Lexus and has even more “intelligence” in the engine’s variable valve timing. The ES300 is long—comparably priced Mercedes-Benz C-class and BMW 3-series models are more than a foot shorter. In fact, the ES300 is bigger and roomier than the Mercedes E-class and BMW 5-series sedans. Lexus makes good use of that space in an interior that’s finished with skill. Indeed, we think Lexus sets the standard for interiors. All-new in 2002, the ES300 enters 2003 unchanged except for the addition of optional power-adjustable accelerator and brake pedals.
