KIA SPECTRA
The Spectra is the sporty car of the Kia lineup. For 2003 it receives only minor changes. The Spectra is available as a four-door sedan or five-door hatch. At the heart is a DOHC 1.8-liter four-cylinder that produces 124 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque. It is available with either a standard five-speed manual or an optional four-speed automatic transmission. Befitting a sporty car, the Spectra has an independent suspension with struts front and rear. All Spectras come with anti-roll bars in front and back. Anti-lock brakes are optional and come with four-wheel discs in place of the standard disc/drum setup. Despite all this stuff, think of the Spectra not as a sporty car—or as yet another Korean economy car—but as a sort of downmarket version of the Saab 9-3 five-door. With a valuable warranty and low base price, the Spectra certainly qualifies as a bargain.
