KIA SEDONA
Brand-new in 2002, the Sedona enters 2003 with only detail changes. This front-drive van is the size of a Toyota Sienna and comes in one length only, 194.1 inches. Its 195-hp, 3.5-liter twin-cam V-6 (with standard five-speed automatic) delivers unhurried acceleration, burdened by the 4700-pound curb weight. But its steering is pleasantly light, and it’s an easy minivan to maneuver. The Sedona scores big on adaptability with sliding rear doors on both sides. The EX brings captain’s chairs to the second row; the LX has a split bench. Passenger space is excellent. For hauling, the third row tumbles forward to enlarge floor space, or you can unplug both rows from the floor and leave them behind. This van follows Kia’s more-car-for-fewer-bucks approach, and, although nothing about it scores as a brilliant innovation, the whole package seems agreeable and exceptionally handy.
