INFINITI I35
Except for minor refinements, Infiniti is standing pat in 2003 with its mid-level Maxima-based I35, which replaced the tamer I30 last year and now comes much closer to living up to its “luxury performance sedan” formula. The 2002 I35 got a successful face lift and a more powerful 3.5-liter V-6 producing 255 hp and the hint of big-bore rumble from the exhaust system. With its seamless four-speed electronically controlled automatic, we found the ’02 I35 to be pleasantly sporty. Standard equipment includes power seats, windows, mirrors, and locks; cruise control; 17-inch wheels; and an upscale sound system. An optional sport package adds stability control, suspension tweaks, side-sill spoilers, a sunroof, and sportier wheels and tires. For 2003 optional satellite radio and new seat and center-console treatments are added to an already pleasing interior.
