HYUNDAI ACCENT
Hyundai’s least-expensive car receives a major face lift for 2003. The restyled front and rear include a new grille, hood, fenders, and light assemblies. The Accent comes in base three-door L, step-up GS, and the four-door GL sedan. All three trim levels now come standard with a 1.6-liter DOHC four that is rated at 105 hp. The 1.5-liter SOHC is no longer available. Air conditioning is standard on the GS and GL sedan and remains an option on the L. For less than 10 grand, the base car measures up well against the Kia Rio, but we’re talking entry-level transportation here. All Accents come with a five-speed manual transmission; a four-speed automatic is optional. The warranty is remarkable: 10 years or 100,000 miles on the powertrain and 60,000 miles or five years on the rest of the car. The warranty and low price make it hard to beat as a basic transportation buy.
