CHEVROLET TRACKER
Counting down to an all-new replacement, the Tracker gets only very minor cosmetic tweaks for 2003. Chevys version of the Suzuki Vitara and Grand Vitara has been overshadowed by the unibody Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4. However, its rugged body-on-frame construction and part-time four-wheel-drive system with low-range transfer case still make it popular with serious off-roaders, supported by a broad variety of aftermarket products. Introduced for 2001, the ZR2 model looks the part of the rugged off-roader, with bigger tires, a gray grille, and a standard 2.5-liter V-6 (165 hp, 162 lb-ft of torque). The base engine for the other Trackers is a 127-hp 2.0-liter four. A five-speed manual is standard; a four-speed automatic is optional. The Tracker is offered as a two-door softtop or five-door wagon, with rear- or four-wheel drive.
