CHEVROLET BLAZER
Although it’s been upstaged by the bigger, more modern TrailBlazer, Chevy’s Blazer continues to have a role in bow-tie marketing strategy. First introduced in 1983, this smallish mid-size SUV is dated compared with its replacement, but it does have its points. For one, it’s less expensive than its successor. For another, it’s available in a three-door body style. And for yet another, it’s the only GM mid-size SUV offering a five-speed manual (standard in the Blazer Xtreme package, which also includes a sunroof option, fancy body cladding, body-colored bumpers, reduced ride height, low-profile tires, aluminum wheels, and, for ’03, flame-job decals). The tamer LS is offered in three- and five-door editions (automatic only). Still propelled by the 190-hp, Vortec 4300 V-6, updated with a new fuel-injection system for 2003, the Blazer offers the option of four-wheel drive on all models.
