BUICK RENDEZVOUS
The Rendezvous is a crossover vehicle, somewhere between a truck-based SUV and a passenger-car-platform SUV. It shares its architecture with GM’s short-wheelbase minivans and the ill-fated Pontiac Aztec. The resemblance stops there, as the far-more successful Rendezvous is attractively styled, managing to project a Buick look but not its stodgy image. With its low step-in height and high roofline, the Rendezvous offers minivan utility—it can seat seven with an optional, folding third-row bench—and its 185-hp V-6 has enough strength to haul the 4000-pound vehicle around with little evidence of strain. Basically a front-driver, this Buick is also available with GM's Versatrak all-wheel-drive system. Brand-new in 2002, the 2003 version is updated with some new options—an electronic liftgate, XM satellite radio, and a DVD system—and two new colors.
