BUICK REGAL
Buick has beefed up elements of the Regal’s interior trim to enhance head-impact protection, but aside from that update, plus a couple of new colors, this mid-size front-driver is unchanged for 2003. This is Buick’s sportiest sedan and also the only Buick to offer luxury-interior packages conceived by fashion designer Joseph Abboud. It’s the fourth year for the Abboud option, available on both models, the base LS and the upscale GS. The Regal shares its platform with the milquetoast Century, but it offers more power: a choice of GM’s naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6 (200 hp) or its supercharged variant (240 hp). And the Regal’s suspension is tuned to reduce body roll and enhance cornering, particularly with the Gran Touring package on the GS. The sharper reflexes come at the expense of a slightly stiffer ride and increased noise, but we think it’s a worthwhile trade-off.
