BUICK CENTURY
Aside from minor interior and exterior trim updates and improved head-impact protection, this most affordable of Buicks is unchanged for 2003. The Century shares the same underpinnings as the sportier Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Intrigue, and Pontiac Grand Prix, but its suspension tuning is aimed at buyers who prefer quiet comfort and relaxed cruising. It’s also one of the few sedans that can actually seat six in relative comfort. The drivetrain augments the Century’s low-key persona. GM’s 175-hp, 3.1-liter pushrod V-6 sends power to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Although it’s not conceived for haste, it gets the job done without drama. If you want more punch, you’ll have to shop elsewhere. The Century is offered in one trim level only (Custom) and includes a full year of GM’s OnStar security-and-information service as standard equipment.
